Dry Skin Needs Both Water and Oil: 6 Tips on How to Care of Your Dry Skin
As mentioned in the previous article "Understanding Skincare", skin types can be divided into four types, normal, dry, oily and combination skin. When choosing our skincare products, we should find the most suitable formula to meet the specific needs of our skin.
Starting today, we will delve into the causes and treatment methods of each type of skin. Each type of skin actually has its own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, we will also introduce which natural skincare ingredients and all-natural 100% essential oil products can be used to improve the problems of each skin type.
Mentioned before. . .
Dry skin is a skin type that produces less sebum than normal skin.
The result is a lack of lipids that can retain moisture and protect the skin from external influences (such as weather, ultraviolet rays, cigarette smoke and other pollutants) - a mixture of cholesterol, fatty acids and ceramides on the skin's surface.
With this type of skin, dryness can usually be seen on the cheeks/neck and around the eyes. In winter, even the lips can become dry and chapped.
Characteristics of Dry Skin
Dry skin will appear dull, rough and sometimes behave in leather-like texture. Dry skin will feel tight and easily show fine lines.
Some people with dry skin are more prone to conditions like cracking, peeling, inflammation, and sometimes even eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis of varying degrees. This type of sensitive muscle is classified as the sub-category under the dry skin category --- dry sensitive skin.
Causes of Dry Skin
There could be lots of reasons for having dry skin : it may be due to the lack of water in the outermost stratum corneum; it may also be due to insufficient cell lipid synthesis, that is, the sebum secreted by the sebaceous glands (that is, the body's own oil) is not enough to keep the skin lubricated; in addition, it could also be inherited genetically. For example, some ethnic groups, like African Americans, seem to have dry skin more often; other factors include skin diseases that can damage the skin barrier, such as eczema and dermatitis; and climatic conditions such as high temperature or severe cold weather; or excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation, etc.; smoke, cigarette and alcohol can also seriously damage the skin~
